Susan Elizabeth, An Exciting, New Talent!

by Turbo for EC Xine

There are no overnight successes. Every great musical artist spends
years, even decades honing their crafts. Like fine wine time and tide
can allow an artist a full bodied flavor and expression. Such is the
case of Susan Elizabeth.

Her style is essentially pop, while she segues into folk and
electronic. Disillusioned by the artistic confines of her former band
Paige 23, Susan has set out to follow her heartfelt, internal muse as
a solo artist. Though Paige 23 had it’s perks, Susan needed more self
expression and personal, spiritual exploration.

Susan Elizabeth released her first album, “Let Yourself Fall” with
former band Paige 23 in 2002 with ACM Records. Songs from “Let
Yourself Fall” appeared in such shows as Ed and Medium (NBC). Her song
“Run Run (Too Far From Me)” won Susan a college scholarship in 1996.
In 2005 “In Retrospect” followed on an independent label.

Since Paige 23, Susan Elizabeth has taken up her own path. This
declaration allowed Susan to heighten her personal choices and take
the reigns of her own music career.

Her new CD “Wine and Cigarettes” is an allegorical study of her
experiences both personal and spiritual. From her painful, dramatic
divorce through her renunciation of her Catholic origins being reborn
again as a Buddhist allowing her to discover her spiritual heart.
Other songs reveal her new fiance in which she found, lost then found
again.

Her style has been compared to Alanis Morissette but Susan Elizabeth
is softer, expressing more feminine honesty, as opposed to Morisette’s
scorned bitterness. Susan Elizabeth has an exquisite voice merging the
deep, artsy touches of Aimie Mann, the emotive depth of Joni Mitchell
and the playful, humanistic observations of Suzanne Vega.

Susan Elizabeth is a voice of a younger, post, post feminist
generation. Her lyrical colors and musical depth drive her far beyond
the vapid, Bush era songstresses who insisted on playing stupid.
Susan Elizabeth reclaims intelligent feminism
with unapologetic, female vulnerability.

There is always a bright side in Susan’s songs, after every storm the
rainbow emerges victorious. Susan Elizabeth’s gift of spiritual and
emotional resurrection comes across in all of her songs. “Reinventing
Sara.” T is a beautiful song dealing with the revelation of love’s
deeper meanings.

Her song “Peace” tells us more about her finding Buddhism last summer.
To me Susan Elizabeth had a spiritual awakening. She was raised a
Roman Catholic and then began to really think about finding her proper
spiritual place within this world. Spirituality and religion are not
the same thing. Seeing her spiritual path, she clearly found her way
in Buddhism. “Peace” is dedicated to Buddha and her spiritual guide
Arya Tara.

“The Excitement Before” examines fantasy and infatuation and how they
lead us mortals through the chase of the illusion. Fantasy is ever
more potent as it anticipates the reality of the actual catch.

“Wine and Cigarettes” is Susan’s autobiographical soundtrack. The honey of her mesmerizing voice will touch your heart and allow you to identify what it means to live your life, to fall, to explore, to look darkness in the face walk through fears courageously.

The payoff comes with the brightness of Susan Elizabeth’s delightful optimism and refusal to accept mediocrity. “Wine and Cigarettes” is a finely
crafted, classic, good album destined to put Susan Elizabeth on the
star map of spectacular musical artists.

Ecxine recently caught up with New York Singer and Songwriter *G*. Here is EC Xine’s interview.

*G* is a versatile, New York City based singer-songwriter. *G* came from the Rock n’ Roll genre as she was a former lead singer with Grammy nominated band Aya.

*G* has worked in many musical genres as she also studied jazz at Julliard and has sung at many of Manhattan’s top venues. Her musical philosophy is fascinating as she is now exploring new musical styles of Trance and Electronica as quoted in a recent interview:

EC: “How did you become fascinated with Electronica,Trance and Dance music coming from a rock background?”

*G*: “I have always loved the convergence of human vocals merging with electronic technologies from earliest Moog synthesizers to newer instruments. As we evolve our options for electronic sounds will only increase. Perhaps they will move beyond sound alone and merge colors and holograms.”

EC: “Why is Electronica relevent in your music?”

*G*: “To me Electronica symbolizes the unification of human and machine and perhaps one day we will evolve as beings of both organic and machine which is already happening. Nanotechnology is already a reality and a burgeoning science.”

EC: “That’s too deep!”

*G*: “OK this is deep but thinking is good”…

*G*has recently has collaborated with Lengendary European DJ-Producer: Vic Palminteri on a track “Let love Inside You”, that critic Graciaella Carri called “A perfect anthem for the new Obama Era . *G* also worked with Miami super DJs DEIBYS and LeMoch on “My HerStory” and with Japan’s Lady Citizen.

Ron Silver was a passionate actor. When Ron met with writer-director, Fred Manocherian, to view his final film ”My Father’s Will” he was pleased with the results. Mr. Silver felt at peace with Fred Manocherian’s vision and was quite amazed how touching the movie is. “My Father’s Will” which also stars Victor Alfieri, Ione Skye, Talia Shire and is the film debut of singer Sylvia Tosun. Tosun sings the movie’s theme song, “Goodbye My Love”, a fitting song for a final film from a fine actor.

Ronald Arthur “Ron” Silver (July 2, 1946 – March 15, 2009) was an American actor, director, producer, and political activist.
Broadway theaters will dim their lights Wednesday in honor of actor Ron Silver who died Sunday after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer. Theater marquees will be dimmed for one minute at 8 p.m., the traditional starting time for evening performances of Broadway shows.

Silver won a 1988 best-actor Tony Award for performance in David Mamet’s “Speed-the-Plow” which he co-starred with Madonna in her Tony nominated Broadway debut. Ron also appeared in such plays as “Hurlyburly” by David Rabe and the comedy “Social Security.” From 1991 to 2000, he was president of Actors’ Equity Association. Silver was 62.

Silver was born in New York City, New York, the son of May (née Zimelman), a substitute teacher, and Irving Roy Silver, a clothing sales executive. Silver was raised in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and attended The East Side Hebrew Institute (”ESHI”) and then Stuyvesant High School. He went on to graduate from SUNY at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Chinese, and received a Master’s Degree in Chinese History from St. John’s University in New York and the College of Chinese Culture in Taiwan. He also attended Columbia University’s Graduate School of International Affairs and studied acting at the Herbert Berghof Studio.

Silver made his film debut in Tunnel Vision in 1976. From 1976 to 1978 he played downstairs neighbor Gary Levy in the series Rhoda. Additional screen roles include Lovesick (1983), the devoted son of Anne Bancroft in Garbo Talks (1984), an incompetent detective in Eat and Run (1986), the pistol-wielding psychopath opposite Jamie Lee Curtis in 1989’s Blue Steel. and the lead in Paul Mazursky’s Oscar-nominated Enemies: A Love Story (1989). Silver also starred opposite Jerry Lewis in the “Garment District Arc” of the crime show Wiseguy (1988). He often said in interviews that growing up the son of a man working in the garment industry was a great help in preparing for the role. He also portrayed defense attorney Alan Dershowitz in Reversal of Fortune (1990), based on the trial of Claus von Bülow. In 1998, he starred opposite Kirstie Alley for the last 2 seasons of Veronica’s Closet.

Silver was featured in such diverse films as Mr. Saturday Night (1992), Timecop (1994), and as Muhammad Ali’s boxing cornerman Angelo Dundee in Ali (2001). From 2001 to 2002 and 2005 to 2006, Silver portrayed presidential campaign advisor Bruno Gianelli on The West Wing.

From 1991 to 2000, Silver served as president of the Actors’ Equity Association.

In February 2008, Silver began hosting The Ron Silver Show on Sirius Satellite Radio, which focused on politics and public affairs. The show aired live at 9–11am ET on Indie Talk, Sirius 110.

Silver traveled to more than 30 countries and spoke fluent Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. He taught at the high school level and was a social worker for the Department of Social Services.

He was a co-founder in 1989 of the entertainment industry political advocacy organization the Creative Coalition.

Silver was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2000, he co-founded the organization One Jerusalem to oppose the Oslo Peace Agreement. Its purpose is to maintain “a united Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel.

Silver, a Democrat for many years, left the party and became an Independent, and a supporter of President George W. Bush, citing the September 11, 2001 attacks and Democratic policies regarding terrorism as reasons. He spoke at the United States 2004 Republican National Convention and continued to support President Bush. Silver was appointed Chairman for the Millennium Committee by New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He had a blog on the Pajamas Media website. There he wrote that his colleagues on the set of West Wing called him “Ron, Ron, the Neo-Con.”

On October 7, 2005, Silver was nominated by President Bush to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the United States Institute of Peace. On September 8, 2006, it was announced that Silver had joined an advisory committee to the Lewis Libby Legal Defense Trust.
